HILLCREST PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
PHYSICAL EDUCATION RULES & GRADING PROCEDURES
Hillcrest Middle School will offer a comprehensive Physical Education program that adheres to state and district guidelines. We believe our program will challenge each student to reach his/her highest potential and allow opportunities for success and enjoyment.
We would like to explain a few items of importance to you and your child about our Physical Education program here at Hillcrest Middle School.
Each student is required to dress appropriately for the daily activities. The Physical Education department suggests that each student has the following:
Students will be issued a combination lock and locker to store their belongings during Physical Education class. Students are strongly encouraged to bring a change of clothes to participate in during class, and change out of before attending other classes on campus. Students may store hygiene products, shoes and clothes in their locker all day. Students will need to take all contents of their locker home at the end of the week to be cleaned. $5 will be charged to a student account at the end of the year if the locker is not returned in working order.
Parent notes to excuse a student from P.E are good for up to three days. Anything past three days must be a written note from a doctor. A copy of the note will be submitted to the school nurse.
Throughout the school year the Physical Education students will participate in a variety of team sports, fitness concepts, physical conditioning, weight training, and Health according to the Arizona State Standards for Health and Physical Education.

Discipline:
MTSS/RTI – B: Response to intervention- behavior (The HMS School-wide Prevention Program)
Our Progressive discipline is based on the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Response to Intervention-Behavior (RTI-B)
Students are expected to conduct themselves properly at all times. Specific guidelines are outlined in the DVUSD Student Rights and Responsibility (SR&R) Handbook. The school rules apply to coming to school, going home from school, and at all school-sponsored events. General misbehavior is handled by the classroom teacher in the following manner:
Consequences for inappropriate behavior will be given according to the DVUSD discipline guidelines as outlined in the Student Rights and Responsibility (SRR) Handbook. Students who are unable to follow the class rules and procedures for safety may be removed from Physical Education class.
DVUSD Academic Integrity Statement
To be college-, career-, and community-ready, students in the Deer Valley Unified School District are expected to demonstrate academic integrity. Academic integrity is all about being honest and fair in your schoolwork. It means doing work that is entirely your own and giving credit to others (including generative Artificial Intelligence tools) through proper citation when you use their ideas or words.
If you have questions about the guidelines for academic integrity, you should discuss them with your teacher.
DVUSD Academic Dishonesty Statement
Academic dishonesty refers to any action that compromises the integrity of academic work or evaluation processes. This includes but is not limited to:
Consequences for instances of academic dishonesty range from a conference and loss of credit (student will be given another opportunity to show mastery of learning) up to a 5-day suspension and loss of credit.
Students will also use Canvas, the online learning platform for the district throughout the year to complement the activities they learn in Physical Education. Because of the online usage students and parents should be familiar with the Digital Norms for Hillcrest and the District from the SRR Handbook.
2024 Digital Norms
DVUSD Artificial Intelligence Statement
In the Deer Valley Unified School District, we are committed to providing our students with the best possible education while ensuring their safety, privacy, and well-being. As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance learning experiences, teachers may incorporate generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the classroom for students.
Students must adhere to the specific guidelines provided in the assignment details. If no guidance around the use of generative AI is provided, students should follow the “restrictive” level (see chart). Teachers should direct students to contact their teacher before submitting classwork if the student is unsure if the tool or website they are using is permitted on a specific assignment.
It is our hope that your child will enjoy a positive experience in Physical Education here at Hillcrest. We encourage young people to incorporate some regular physical activity into their lifestyles. Your support and encouragement in this endeavor is appreciated.

Mr. Bloomfield
Greetings!
I am Coach Bloomfield and this is my fourth year at Hillcrest Middle School. I have a bachelors degree in Physical Education from Grand Canyon University. Go Lopes! I have been a Physical Education teacher for 10 years in the Deer Valley School district between Sunrise Elementary, Legend Springs Elementary, Stetson Hills and Terramar schools. In addition to teaching Physical Education, I also coach high school football for 11 years. This year I have taken a break from coaching to be home more with my one year old son. I also have become the co-athletic coordinator here at Hillcrest. I love coaching athletes and working on improving my skills and knowledge for all sports and activities. In my free time I enjoy hiking, camping, kayaking, and playing tennis and golf. I look forward to seeing you all around campus and go Falcons!
